What is Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of healthcare used worldwide by over 200 million people on a regular basis.

Homeopathy treats each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating their own natural healing ability. A homeopath selects the most appropriate medicine based on the individual’s specific symptoms and personal level of health.

It offers individual and integrated treatment with potentised medicines with the aim of triggering the body’s natural system of healing. Homeopathy is the second largest system of medicine in the world today, as recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Homeopathy is an independent medicine, not controlled by, or under the influence of big Pharma or the corporations.

Homeopathy looks at you as a whole, not just your symptoms, or labels. Homeopathic treatment considers you as a person, so treatment is based on your individual needs.

Homeopathy gives you practical tools to learn about yourself and choices about how you want to respond to your health needs.

Homeopathy offers you a space for self reflection, time out of your busy life, to be heard, seen and honoured for the awesome human you really are.

Homeopathy is a 200 year old system of medicine designed by a German medical doctor who felt his patients needed a safer, less toxic and more gentle means of restoring health and is based on the principle that ‘like cures like’.

Many people confuse Homeopathy with Herbal medicine.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that you can treat ‘like with like’, that is, a substance which causes symptoms when taken in large doses, can be used in small amounts to treat those same symptoms. For example, drinking too much coffee can cause sleeplessness and agitation, so according to this principle, when made into a homeopathic medicine, it could be used to treat people with these symptoms. However, one major difference with homeopathic medicines is that substances are used in minimum dose which make them non-toxic.

Homeopathy is:

Safe – remedies are non- toxic, chemical free and completely safe for everyone to use – pregnant women, babies, young, old, teenagers and if on prescription medication.

Ethical – Remedies aren’t tested on animals or petrochemical based. Homeopathic remedies are tested on healthy human volunteers.

Empowering – I believe that we all need to take responsibility for our own health. As a homeopath, my goal is to make myself redundant, to return my patients to a balanced state of health that they can maintain.

Effective – Throughout their childhoods my children have never used prescription medication or painkillers. We used homeopathy.

Supportive – because of its individualised nature homeopathy supports you physically, and emotionally.

Gentle – there are no side effects, it can be used at all stages of life because it isn’t chemically based.

Is there any evidence it will work?

Its true Homeopathy is controversial.  Lots of people like to have a pop at homeopathy without having really explored the evidence.  Here’s 3 links all of which look at different types of research, anecdotal to clinical.

Is it just a placebo?

It might be, but lets not underestimate the power of placebo or bedside manner as it used to be called. The power of a good therapeutic relationship, of being heard and seen for who you are and not judged, is very powerful.

However Homeopathic prophylaxis for epidemics (so giving people the remedy made out of the disease to stop the spread of it) has been very successfully used over the past two hundred years (most recently in Cuba where 2.5 million people were given homeo-prophylaxis against Leptospirosis which proved more effective than the conventional vaccine it replaced).

Also babies & animals often respond very strongly to homeopathic remedies. Homeopathy for race horses and for cows with mastitis is hugely popular and effective.

What about the skeptics?

They exist. It’s important that there are people in the world who challenge ideas as it encourages development and high standards. However often attacks on Homeopathy and natural medicine are personal and limit our right to choose. Here’s some interesting articles for you to have a read of:

Here’s a good article by Homeopath Dana Ulman

Here’s another cracking article by Dana Ullamn, from 2011 like the other Looking at the two main sources of dis-infomation about Homeopathy

Are there side affects?

No. Homeopathy is chemical free and non toxic and therefore there are no side affects. sometimes there may be a response to a remedy such as a cold or different emotions which I would recommend being in touch with me about.

How often should I have appointments?

Generally I see people once a month and remedies are included in the price. If I feel I need to see you more often or if you want to see me more often we will discuss it during our session. For Other questions about what to expect from a consultation click here.

What about if I get ill between appointments?

I am always text-able and email-able within office hours and have a phone in daily for any enquiries/problems for those receiving regular treatment from me.

If a repeat prescription is needed or I need to send you different remedies there may be a charge. This is all explained in a letter you will receive when you begin  treatment.

Can I take homeopathy alongside drugs from my doctor?

Of course. It is important that you maintain a health dialogue with your G.P. I often work in consultation with G.Ps and other practitioners, especially around prescribed drugs. After all two heads are always better than one.

I am a fully insured Homeopath and a registered member of the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths (ARH).  Find out more about the ARH here
